Google Warming up to Apple
Monday, October 30th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments
It seems that Google is really serious about their relationship with Apple. Several months ago Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt was appointed to the Apple board and I think I’m seeing some results. A few weeks ago Google launched a Mac blog dedicated to discussing and showcasing how Google is for Mac. Google reaffirmed its commitment to making its products compatible with the Mac. The most recent post on the Google Mac blog talks about Google’s presence at the MacExpo UK this Fall. Google was showcasing their software and its use on the Mac. They put the spotlight on Google Video, Google Maps, Google Earth (which I have on my Mac) and SketchUp. I’m looking forward to the day when all of Google’s products will run smoothly in Safari and on OS X.

Apple – Leader in design
Thursday, October 26th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments
Apple may be one of the smaller players in the high tech world. However, we may be underestimating its influence on technology. Wil Harris of TrustedReviews.com wrote an article analyzing the improvements in computer design. He attributes this to two things – the trend toward “cinema PC’s” and Apple Inc. Because of Apple’s success with the iPod and later the iMac and the MacBooks other computer manufacturers are realizing that design matters. Now high tech companies such as Dell and Microsoft are spending more money and time on design. To get all the juicy details on this phenomenon of design and how Apple is in the lead, read Wil’s article at TrustedReviews.com.
Firefox 2.0 Released
Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 | Browser News | No Comments
Firefox 2.0 has been released. The official release was yesterday October 24th. However, if you had the beta version, it automatically updated a day or two before that. When I heard that Firefox 2.0 was to be released, I checked the version on my computer and it was already 2.0.
Firefox is a great alternative web browser for Mac users. I suggest that any computer user have at least 2 web browsers installed. The Mac comes with Safari, which works fine for most web sites an average user would visit. Occasionally, though you may come across a site that refuses to display properly in Safari. In cases like these it is handy to have another browser such as Firefox available for backup.
MacBook Pro is Upgraded
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments

Today is a great day for prospective MacBook Pro buyers. Apple has upgraded both the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pro’s to Core 2 Duo processors. But that is not all. They’ve increased the amount of memory and hard drive space that you can get. The standard configuration now comes with 1GB of memory and 120GB of hard drive storage. In addition, Apple brought back to both the 15 and 17 inch models FireWire 800. And finally, MacBook Pro’s now come with a double-layer optical drive. These are amazing upgrades to the pro line of MacBooks. And the best thing about it is that the price remains the same. For those of you who are looking to buy a MacBook Pro, there hasn’t been a better time.
