Firefox 2.0 Released
Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 | Browser News | No Comments
Firefox 2.0 has been released. The official release was yesterday October 24th. However, if you had the beta version, it automatically updated a day or two before that. When I heard that Firefox 2.0 was to be released, I checked the version on my computer and it was already 2.0.
Firefox is a great alternative web browser for Mac users. I suggest that any computer user have at least 2 web browsers installed. The Mac comes with Safari, which works fine for most web sites an average user would visit. Occasionally, though you may come across a site that refuses to display properly in Safari. In cases like these it is handy to have another browser such as Firefox available for backup.
MacBook Pro is Upgraded
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments

Today is a great day for prospective MacBook Pro buyers. Apple has upgraded both the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pro’s to Core 2 Duo processors. But that is not all. They’ve increased the amount of memory and hard drive space that you can get. The standard configuration now comes with 1GB of memory and 120GB of hard drive storage. In addition, Apple brought back to both the 15 and 17 inch models FireWire 800. And finally, MacBook Pro’s now come with a double-layer optical drive. These are amazing upgrades to the pro line of MacBooks. And the best thing about it is that the price remains the same. For those of you who are looking to buy a MacBook Pro, there hasn’t been a better time.
Great Financial Performance for Apple
Friday, October 20th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments
Apple has seen some spectacular performance during the fiscal 4th quarter. Revenue came in at $4.84 billion, a 32% increase from last year. Apple shipped 8.73 million iPods during the 4th quarter and sold 1.61 million Macs. In a statement Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, stated that 2007 may be the “most exciting new product year in Apple’s history.” Great job Apple! According to these financial results I think it is safe to say that Apple is a good investment as a company. And millions are turning to Apple to meet their computing needs. During the World Wide Developers Conference Keynote address in August, Steve Jobs indicated that 50% of the Macs sold during the 3rd quarter were purchased by new Mac users. Not only are the loyal Mac users investing in the latest technology, but new users are tipping their hat to Apple.
Apple is very tight lipped about new products. But we know that at least one major release is planned for 2007. The next version of Mac OS X Leopard is slated to be released in spring. That’s enough to look forward to for me. Anything else will be icing on the cake.
