Camino – Open Source Browser for Mac

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 | Free Stuff, Reviews | 1 Comment

Camino iconI’ve mentioned this before. It’s wise to keep at least one other browser on your Mac beside Safari. Safari is a good browser, however periodically you may encounter sites that don’t work well in Safari. In times like these an alternate browser is vary handy.

There are several browsers you can have as backup. The famous open source browser Firefox is a good alternative. Also, OmniWeb by Omni Group is another good choice, although you’ll need to purchase a license. But there is another possibility that works very well and will not cost you a dime.

Camino is a browser build on the same technology as Firefox. However, it is build specifically for Mac. Its interface is a better match for the OS X look. It is simple and runs well. In my opinion it runs a little faster than Firefox. If you’re used to Firefox and rely on various add-ons, Camino will be limiting for you. But if you need a browser that is quick and will display just about any web page, Camino is a great alternative or simply a backup browser to Safari.

Camino screen shotCamino offers a good set of essential features. It comes with tabs, which many of us have come to love and expect in a browser. In addition, Camino will block pop-up windows as well as any other web advertising if you so choose. It has a preference option to prevent sites from moving or resizing your browser window. And since its a Mac application, it uses Keychain to store logins and passwords.

Get a Mac ads

Apple has release 3 more Get a Mac Television ads. This time they’ve spiced it up with a bit of holiday spirit. I won’t go into much detail here. They still have that subtle sense of humor. And the actors are still the same, despite all of the buzz going around that the Mac guy may no longer be doing these ads. Check them out for yourself.

Day of Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Today is the day when many people think of the things they are thankful for.  When it comes to computer technology, I’m thankful for Mac.  Mac breaks the monotony of my life.  I live in a Windows world at my day job.  And its a breath of fresh air when I come home and use my Mac.  I enjoy its beauty, the sleek design, attractive user interface and stable performance.  There are many other things that I’m grateful for, but when it comes to computers I’m grateful for Mac.

What are you thankful for during this Thanksgiving holiday?

Will Apple Make a Mobile Phone?

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006 | Apple News | No Comments

Speculations may be coming to an end. Forbes published an article indicating that Apple has signed a contract with a Taiwanese technology manufacturer for 12 million mobile phones. In addition, the article says that Apple contracted with the same company to produce 15-inch MacBooks. This is some interesting news. I’d love to see Apple make a mobile phone. Click on the Forbes link above to read the article for more details.

Not all is sunshine and roses for Cupertino’s Apple Inc. and its customers. In the recent years Apple has experienced tremendous growth. Five years ago Apple introduced iPod, which was an innovation in the digital music market. The iPod became so popular that it put Apple back on the technological map.
