Another Mac Enters the World

Its been a long wait. But finally, I have my own Mac. A little over a year ago I purchased a PowerBook for my wife. Since then I’ve dreamed of having my own. When I learned that the next upgrade to Mac OS X, Leopard was to be released in the near future, I decided to wait for the upgrade before purchasing a Mac for myself.
With anticipation I waited for a projection of Leopard’s release date. In January at the MacWorld Steve Jobs announced that it will be released in Spring of 2007.  At that point it could have been a few more months of waiting. But I was prepared to restrict the satisfaction of my desires for a little while longer. However, when I learned that Leopard is being delayed until October 2007, that drove me over the edge. Another six months of waiting. I couldn’t wait any longer. I already had the necessary funds prepared for the purchase anticipating that wondrous day. So with my wife’s permission, I ordered a 15″ MacBook Pro.
Here are some pictures of the unpacking. I’ve used it for a couple of days now. And I love it. I wish everyone could experience the same joy of purchasing a computer.

I love the way these things are packaged. Both on the outside and inside everything is thought through. Not only is the computer designed well, but even the packaging.

It comes with all the regular accessories, the power supply and the extension cord, remote control for Front Row and a VGA adaptor. Actually MacBook Pro’s are the only model that comes with the VGA adaptor. If you’re purchasing a MacBook it will not ship with this adaptor. It really is not a key component, unless you plan to connect to a projector or an external display.
This post comes from my own Mac. It’s a good feeling.
UK Version of Mac Ads

Apple runs a separate line of Get a Mac ads in Great Britain. They use a different set of actors and they play on what seem to be more culturally understood nuances. If all you’ve seen are the US ads, take a look at these. They are pretty fun. I especially enjoy the British accent.

Beside disappointing Mac fans, Apple has also released a couple of new Mac Ads. I really like the one called “Computer Cart.” Instead of me telling you all about it, swing over to the Apple web site and check it out for yourself.
Mac OS X Leopard Delayed
Thursday, April 12th, 2007 | Apple News | No Comments
This is very sad news. I was very bummed when I heard. The release date of Leopard has been pushed back to October 2007. That’s way too long for me to wait. I’ve been holding off on purchasing a new MacBook Pro until the release on Leopard, but now I don’t think I can keep holding for 6 more months. Apple released the news quietly today in a statement on their web site under Hot News. The cause of this delay, according to Apple, are the stretched resources needed to make the release date of iPhone. Apple had to borrow some engineering power from the development of Leopard to finish up iPhone.
On one hand this disappointing. On the other it is a good sign that Apple is unwilling to release a product that will not be of top quality. I’d rather see a delayed upgrade that runs well, than an on-time release of software that is buggy and with tons of holes. And again, this doesn’t always happen with Apple. We need to give them a break once in a while. I like how David Cartier lays out some of his thoughts on this situation in a post on The Unofficial Apple Blog.
As for me, I think this will push me over the edge and I will purchase a new MacBook Pro before the release of Leopard. I just can’t wait any longer.
